Disqualifying Content

A few "thorny" problems that will end the review.

-- Anyone under the age of 18.

-- As of 1/1/05, The Rose Awards no longer accepts commercial, business or "fan" sites of any kind.

-- Any site not written in English, or without an English translation available; entire site must be translated into English, which includes all written content.

-- Obvious and/or deliberate copyright infringement.

-- On the application form, anyone who does not correctly enter the secret phrase to the question "Where are you from ?" will be disqualified -- You can find the secret phrase in the Criteria, and answering this question correctly tells me that you have thoroughly read the criteria.

-- Any website hosted at MSN Groups, where the same design template is used for every site, allowing for no creativity or individual design skills.

-- Websites with WrITinG liKE tHiS, large overpowering text, multiple backgrounds/fonts/text that slow download times & are not theme-appropriate, or a website that requires a download of any kind to view the site (fonts, scripts, applets, etc).

-- "No right click" scripting -- If I can't 'right click' my mouse to check for bandwidth stealing and for the correct image tags (height, width, alt), then I can't continue the review.

-- Offensive or sexually-explicit language, pornographic material (in writing, song lyrics, links, graphics and the like), or links to sites promoting pornography .... (Tasteful artwork is allowed, with "tasteful" being the operative word -- Think of Michelangelo's "David" or Botticelli's "Venus" as your reference points).

-- Hatred, violence, cruelty to humans and/or animals, religious/political intolerance, sexual stereotyping, illegal activities (code cracking, gambling, etc), material degrading to women/children, or hatred toward any foreign country or people.

-- In addition, any website with hateful or defamatory remarks toward another individual/group of individuals, or toward another website or award program, will be disqualified without further notice.

-- Horizontal scrolling greater than 1024x768.

-- Greater than five (5) broken internal links or images/icons on the web site.

-- Greater than seven (7) broken external links on the web site (not including guestbook icons, hit counters, and the like).

-- Greater than two (2) animated graphics per page.

-- Stolen bandwidth or "hot linking".

-- Greater than three (3) misspelled words on the main/opening page -- Special consideration will be given to non-English speaking web masters who have translated their native language into English, and to the differences in spelling within the English language (i.e. "humor" & "humour").

-- Scripting which crashes or takes control of my browser, not allowing me to use my scroll bar or to exit from the site -- I will attempt two (2) visits to the site before a disqualification is issued.

-- Comet Cursor/Gator/Crescendo pop ups & the like, and as stated above, requests to download a font, script or program in order to view the web site (with the exception of Macromedia Flash).

-- Java-scripted trailing mouse cursors are acceptable if they are tasteful, not overdone, and are correctly scripted so as not to freeze or crash my browser.

-- In addition, "snow" floating down pages is also accepted -- again, as long as it's tasteful, not overdone, and the scripting is correct & doesn't crash or freeze my browser.

-- Greater than one (1) pop up per page with web sites on free servers -- Paid servers should have NO pop ups (this excludes javascript pop-up windows used for display of graphics, awards, information, etc).

-- Greater than five (5) HTML fragments or error messages on the entire web site.
